A national project to employ artificial intelligence in agriculture and water conservation.
In a qualitative step aimed at supporting the agricultural sector using the latest technology tools, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship witnessed on Monday the signing of a contract to implement the project "Using Artificial Intelligence and Satellite Images to Predict Soil Fertility and Rationalize Water Consumption" between the Japanese side and Growtech, a company specializing in smart agriculture technologies, within the framework of the joint technical cooperation agreement between the Ministry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project aims to improve the efficiency of agricultural production and achieve the optimal use of water resources, by integrating satellite images with accurate field data, and analyzing them using artificial intelligence techniques to determine the characteristics of the soil and the most appropriate time for irrigation, thus contributing to raising the quality of agricultural production and reducing waste in water consumption.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship emphasized that this initiative serves as a practical example of integrating technology within the agricultural sector, demonstrating the government's dedication to utilizing artificial intelligence for service development and sustainability. It was added that the implementation of these technologies would enhance agricultural decision-making and increase production efficiency.
The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted the importance of the project, as it falls within the sustainable agriculture plan and contributes to enhancing productivity and improving natural resource management, especially in light of water challenges. It was mentioned that the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture processes opens new horizons for Jordanian farmers and provides accurate tools that help them achieve better results with fewer resources.
For his part, Mr. MORIHATA expressed his pride in the continuous cooperation with the Jordanian government, stressing that this project constitutes an important milestone in the application of artificial intelligence in the service of agricultural development, and paves the way for the adoption of intelligent solutions that improve food security and the conservation of water and natural resources.English translation.
