As part of the framework of the technical cooperation agreement signed between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to build and develop the system supporting artificial intelligence (AI) in Jordan, which aims to promote the use of emerging technologies, especially AI in Jordan, in addition to applying use cases for AI in priority sectors.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship witnessed on Thursday the signing of a contract for the implementation of the project to use AI in the planning and operation system for electric loads between the executive team of the JICA and Algebra Intelligence, specialized in energy monitoring solutions, under the patronage of Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Hanandeh and the chief representative of the JICA Jordan office, MORIHATA Shingo, in addition to the Minister of Energy Saleh Kharabsha, Director General of the National Electricity Company Amjad Al Rawashdeh, Commissioner in charge of the Secretary General of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority Wafaa Al Bakhit, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Amani Al-Azzam, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Samira Al-Zoubi and a number of officials and consultants from JICA.
Hanandeh explained during the signing ceremony that the "AI in Load Planning and Operation System Project" is the first PoC pilot project for the use of AI within the agreement between the Japanese and Jordanian sides, which was chosen due to the importance of the energy sector and its direct and significant impact on the national economy, as the project aims to help make decisions to operate conventional and alternative power generation systems by using AI in the load planning and operation system and to predict electrical loads and their impact on weather conditions for the operators of the monitoring and control center.
Hanandeh also emphasized that this project is an implementation of the technical agreement between the two sides in the field of AI and that there will be a set of future projects in a variety of sectors that promote AI applications in various fields such as health, agriculture, education, and others, and that these joint efforts will contribute significantly to advancing technological progress and promoting economic development, and will open new doors for innovation and economic opportunities in Jordan.
For his part, MORIHATA Shingo, Chief Representative of JICA Jordan, expressed his confidence in the cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that the signing of the contract today is the beginning of a real partnership with the government and the private sector that will pave the way for future advances in the field of AI and advanced technology in Jordan to form a new standard for innovation in facing various challenges and reaching a smarter and more connected infrastructure to benefit the economy and society.
