Driven by the Supreme Royal Vision and based on the approval of the esteemed Prime Ministry dated 25 June 2003, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology began working on establishing the National Fiber Optic Network where the implementation of the Network of University Education and Scientific Research was completed in 2005, connecting eight (8) governmental universities.
And to maximize the benefit from this network in serving the national efforts to develop and modernize the general sector, the scope of the network has been expanded to include connecting governmental and health entities with the aim of connecting approximately 3000 sites.
