Today, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) regarding the launch of a new technical cooperation project between the two parties in the field of artificial intelligence and enhancing ways of cooperation in building and developing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ecosystem in Jordan.
The agreement signed by the His Excellency Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Mr. Ahmed Hanandeh on behalf of the Jordanian government and Mr. Wakui Junji the Chief Representative of JICA Jordan office for the Japanese side aims at implementing and strengthening ways of cooperation in building and developing the AI ecosystem in Jordan. Benefiting from Japanese experiences to promote the use of emerging and modern technologies to improve public services using AI techniques in vital economic sectors, the project plan to implement use-cases in AI in priority economic sectors and applying them on in real.
This agreement comes as a continuation of the previous discussions between the two parties January of this year on the main technical axes of the project “Promotion of Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem”. Where the two parties agreed on the general framework of the project in addition to a draft record of discussions and the structure of the initial implementation.
During the signing ceremony, Hanandeh stressed Jordan's endeavor to keep abreast of the latest developments and benefit from the best global practices and available opportunities related to artificial intelligence, noting that artificial intelligence techniques contribute to reducing costs, creating new job opportunities, automating operations and increasing business efficiency, productivity and innovation in all sectors. He added all is in line with the objectives of the Jordanian Artificial Intelligence Policy that was approved in 2020, which highlights the importance of these technologies and how to adapt, deal and harness them to serve the Jordanian economy.
From his part, the Chief Representative of the JICA Jordan Office, Mr. Wakui, expressed his happiness with the launch of the project, as he stressed on the importance of using artificial intelligence technologies to develop many vital sectors in Jordan.
A team from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) earlier visited a number of relevant and leading institutions, companies and universities in this sector, where many views exchanged on the importance of implementing this type of project in Jordan because of its impact on increasing projects Entrepreneurship potential and job creation for youth.
