Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Celebrates World Environment Day

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship organized an awareness event on Thursday to mark World Environment Day under the patronage of the Ministry’s Secretary General, Samira Al-Zoubi, with the participation of a number of ministry employees.

Al-Zoubi emphasized the importance of promoting sustainability and green transformation concepts in the workplace and strengthening institutional practices that support the green economy. She highlighted the role of digital transformation in supporting environmental sustainability through the development of digital services, reducing reliance on paper, and improving resource efficiency.

The event program included awareness sessions on environmental sustainability, personal data protection, and the safe management of data storage media and electronic waste, in addition to a practical activity involving the destruction of personal and government data storage media using a secure shredding device.

Al-Zoubi participated in the destruction process, while the resulting waste is managed in cooperation with licensed recycling companies, enabling the reuse of raw materials in other industries and supporting the principles of the circular economy and green digital economy.

The Ministry also noted that it provides a specialized device for the secure destruction of data storage media and indicated that a circular issued by the Prime Ministry allows ministries, government departments, and public institutions to benefit from this service through coordination with the Ministry, enhancing government data protection, digital security, sustainable e-waste management, and circular economy principles.

The event comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to raise environmental awareness, encourage sustainable practices, and support the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable digital government environment
